Tequila: Lunazul Primero Anejo
Lunazul Preimero Anejo tequila is their aged or “anejo” expression resting in American oak for between 12 and 18 months prior to bottling. But then, in a step that’s still very unusual but growing in popularity, filters the tequila for a clear color and softening of the oak… something we’re calling “clarified anejo.” (A practice popular with some silver rums.)

Lunazul Primero is a 100% agave tequila produced at Tierra de Agaves Distillery. The agave, which has a pedigree dating back to 1758, is estate grown right outside of the town of Tequila in Jalisco. The agaves are harvested at seven to nine years and then cooked for a day before being shredded to extract the juices. After being fermented with a yeast unique to Lunazul, this tequila is double distilled in small batches then aged for 18 months in ex-bourbon, American white oak barrels. It then goes through a filtration process eight times that removes the color making this an “añejo claro.”
